Why say anything at all, then?

Because lawn care sits next to a very large amount of money. Mowers, blades, fertiliser, seed, herbicides, fungicides, grub control — almost every problem this site helps you diagnose has a product attached to it, and sites like this one very commonly earn a cut when you buy that product.

You have no way of knowing which kind of site you're reading unless it tells you. So: this one currently isn't earning a cut, and when it is, it will say so plainly rather than leave you to guess.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a link that identifies the site that sent you. If you follow one and buy something, the retailer pays the site a small percentage. The price you pay is exactly the same either way — the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.

Affiliate links are legitimate and common. The problem is never that a site uses them. The problem is when a site uses them without telling you, so you can't tell a genuine recommendation from a paid one.

If this site starts using affiliate links

If Lawn Inside takes on affiliate relationships in future, these rules apply:

  • This page gets updated first, naming the programmes involved, before any commission is earned.
  • Every article containing affiliate links carries a visible disclosure, at the top, before the links appear — not hidden in the footer.
  • The recommendation is decided before the link is added, never the other way round. A product does not get recommended because it pays better, and no product moves up a list for commercial reasons.
  • If we wouldn't recommend it without a commission, we don't recommend it with one.
  • The verdict stays honest. Where a product is a poor choice, or a poor choice for a particular reader, the article says so, whether or not there's a commission attached to it.

Those rules are the point of this page. A disclosure that only tells you money exists, without telling you what the money is not allowed to do, isn't worth much.

Ordinary links

Articles here do link out — to university extension research, manufacturer documentation, and occasionally to a product page so you can see the item being described.

None of those links are paid, and none of them are affiliate-tagged. They're there so you can check a claim or see what's being talked about. Outbound links on this site are never sold.

Advertising and sponsorship

There are currently no display ads on Lawn Inside, and no sponsored or paid-placement articles. If either changes, sponsored content will be labelled as sponsored, in the article itself.

A note on the Disclaimer page

Our Disclaimer contains general wording stating that this site may participate in affiliate marketing programmes. That's written to cover the future. This page describes the present, and the present is: no affiliate income. Where the two ever differ, treat this page as the current, specific answer.
